Project Overview
The Parents Guide To Plymouth web site was set up by Geraldine Lane following the success of her book A Parents Guide to Plymouth which was available in four editions between 1983 and 2006.
The web site hosts a wealth of information for parents in Plymouth including advice on childcare, fostering and adoption, health care, healthy eating, leisure activities, pregnancy and childbirth, schools, shopping and much more.
The original web site was an extremely popular and well received site gaining well over 1000 hits a week. However, over time the information and pages increased to the point where the site became difficult to navigate. This was the driving force behind a new site, to present the same information in a more organised and accessible way. This has been achieved by using a number of techniques to improve layout and accessibility, primarily the layout has changed to a more standard web page format with a header, sidebar and footer. The wp-dtree plugin was installed and has been an invaluable asset, condensing a huge number of menu items into an easy to navigate collapsible menu structure.
With the inclusion of new meta data and an xml sitemap the site should see improved results in the search engines and help generate even more traffic.
