HTML5 is currently under development as the next major revision of the HTML standard. Like its immediate predecessors, HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.1, HTML5 is a standard for structuring and presenting content on the World Wide Web. The new standard incorporates features like video playback and drag-and-drop that have been previously dependent on third-party browser plug-ins such as Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, and Google Gears.
The HTML5Rocks web site has been put together as a resource for open web developers looking to put HTML5 to use today.
There are currently nine tutorials on specific HTML5 features. For example, you can learn how to successfully take your application offline, access the user’s location with Geolocation, and even read local files from within JavaScript. There are also a number of APIs that are defined outside the W3C HTML5 Spec, but kept within this site as next-generation web applications span many specs. Check the site regularly as more guides will be added soon.
